World Youth Day 2027 has been confirmed for Tuesday, 3 August – Sunday, 8 August 2027, in Seoul, South Korea. World Youth Day is a Catholic festival that began in 1985, initiated by Pope John Paul II. These events are significant as they bring together the diversity of the Church for celebration, catechesis, and the re-energising of young Catholics.
The most recent World Youth Day was held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2023, where approximately 130 Kiwis attended as part of a national pilgrimage group. The NZ Catholic Bishops Conference Council for Young People is currently exploring options for a pilgrimage experience to Seoul. Once this work is completed, we will release the itinerary and projected costs.
In the meantime, we are collecting expressions of interest from those who would like to attend. You can submit your interest at the following link: www.tinyurl.com/WYDPN2
