Lent is a season of grace.

A sacred time when the Church invites us to slow down, to turn again toward God, and to allow our hearts to be gently reshaped by love. It is not a season of striving or self-perfection, but of return – a returning of the heart to what matters most.

This companion invites us into a simple posture for Lent: to behold Christ. It is not about adding more to the season, but about learning to remain with Him and allowing His Eucharistic presence to shape our hearts and our lives as we journey toward Easter.

How to use this Lenten Companion

This is designed to help you slow down, make space, and remain with Jesus, especially as He is present to us in the Eucharist. It is intentionally simple, flexible, and contemplative, shaped by Scripture and the Church’s call to
conversion, prayer, and mission.

You can use it in several ways:

FOR PERSONAL PRAYER

During the week, prepare for Sunday Mass by praying with the Gospel using Lectio Divina.

Sit with the daily reflections and prayers from Monday to Saturday, allowing them to lead you gently into deeper attentiveness to Christ.

Each day includes a small mission action, an invitation to carry the presence of Jesus into your daily life through simple acts of love, mercy, and faithfulness.

If possible, create a small prayer space in your home, perhaps with a Bible, a candle, or a crucifix, to help you remain focused and recollected.

FOR FAMILIES

Read the Sunday Gospel together and take a moment of quiet reflection.

Choose one or two days during the week to pray the daily reflection together as a family.

Invite children to share simply: “Where can Jesus be close to me today?”

Allow the mission action to become something you practise together through kindness, forgiveness, or service.

FOR PARISH GROUPS/ SMALL COMMUNITIES

Use the Sunday Gospel reflection as the centre of your gathering.

Invite participants to share a word or phrase from the Gospel that stayed with them.

Allow time for silence, remembering that Lent forms us as much through stillness as through words.

End by choosing one mission action to carry into your family life, workplace, parish, or community, wherever Christ is inviting you to bear His presence.

First Week of Lent

Behold – Standing Before Christ in Truth

In the wilderness, Jesus entrusts Himself fully to the Father. Freedom begins with trust.

The Behold Lenten Companion invites you this week to stand before Christ as you are and allow His Word to sustain you. Each day offers Scripture, a short reflection, prayer, and one simple action.

Journey daily.
Behold Christ in the desert.

Second Week of Lent

Behold – Listening to the Beloved Son

“This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him.”

This week, the Behold Lenten Companion invites us to deepen our trust by listening attentively to Jesus. Even when the path ahead is unclear, we are called to place our confidence in Him.

Set aside a few quiet minutes each day.
Behold the Beloved Son.

Third Week of Lent

Behold – Receiving the Living Water

Jesus meets the Samaritan woman and offers living water — mercy that restores and gives new life.

The Behold Lenten Companion invites you this week to come honestly before Christ, bringing your longing and your need for forgiveness.

Only Christ can satisfy the thirst of the heart.
Behold His mercy.

Fourth Week of Lent

Behold – Seeing with Eyes Made New

“I was blind and now I see.”

This week, we ask Christ to open our eyes to His light and grace. The Behold Lenten Companion helps us notice God’s quiet work within us and grow in gratitude.

Joy is born from encounter with Christ.
Behold the Light.

Fifth Week of Lent

Behold – Trusting the Lord of Life

“I am the Resurrection and the Life.”

As Lent draws toward Holy Week, the Behold Lenten Companion leads us into deeper trust. Christ stands as Lord over life and death.

Prepare your heart prayerfully.
Behold the Lord of Life.

Holy Week

Behold – Love Poured Out for the World

In Holy Week, we walk with Jesus through His Passion and death. We behold the love that gives itself completely, the mercy poured out on the Cross.

The Behold Lenten Companion guides us day by day through these sacred days.

Walk with Him.
Remain with Him.
Trust that love stronger than death will lead us to new life.

Behold the humility of God.
