The Catholic Parish of Hastings came together in faith and community to celebrate World Mission Sunday, with our goal: “Mission Possible, with God – to spread love and share hope.” Over 600 parishioners attended the outdoor Mass on the St Joseph’s Primary School field — a beautiful testament to unity and shared faith.
As attendees arrived, they were welcomed by young parishioners holding boards displaying scriptures of hope. Our celebration began with praise and song, with our culturally diverse choirs lifting their messages of hope to the city.
Fr Marcus reminded the congregation of our call to missionary discipleship: to pray without ceasing, to remain steadfast, and to walk together as builders and messengers of hope in Christ. He invited everyone to turn toward the city of Hastings to pray the Our Father — a powerful gesture of solidarity and intercession for those who suffer.
After Mass, parishioners joined in a vibrant celebration of culture and community, enjoying performances and food stalls representing India, the Philippines, and New Zealand. The festivities highlighted the rich diversity within the parish and the spirit of generosity and inclusion.
World Mission Sunday was a truly inspiring day of faith, hope, and fellowship — a reminder that we are all called to be Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples, spreading God’s love through prayer, action, and unity.
