Throughout 2025, Catholics around the world celebrated the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Francis under the theme Pilgrims of Hope. Pilgrimage has long been a cherished tradition in the Catholic faith, symbolising our spiritual journey toward God. It involves setting aside time to travel to a sacred place, seeking deeper communion with God through prayer, reflection, and renewal.
The Jubilee Year placed a special focus on pilgrimage and hope — inviting people everywhere to rediscover God’s presence and mercy through intentional journeys of faith. Whether walking ancient paths or visiting local places of prayer and significance, pilgrimage offers a unique opportunity to encounter Christ through sacred spaces, personal devotion, and shared experiences with fellow pilgrims. It reminds us that life itself is a pilgrimage, guided by faith and sustained by hope as we journey toward the fulfilment of God’s Kingdom.
Although the Jubilee Year concluded at the end of 2025, its invitation continues. The call to be Pilgrims of Hope remains deeply relevant in our world today. We are still invited to journey both inwardly and outwardly — reflecting on God’s faithfulness throughout salvation history and in our own lives.
Pilgrimage continues to offer moments of spiritual renewal and encounter. Whether travelling to places of spiritual significance across New Zealand, gathering with others in prayer, or embracing daily acts of service, faith, and discipleship, we continue walking together as a people of hope. In every season, Christ calls us onward — drawing us closer to God and to one another through faith, hope, and love.
