Each year, the Mission Sisters support two missions led by our Sisters in different parts of the world. This annual appeal is an invitation to partner with us in the mission of God by helping communities where the Sisters are working alongside local people.
Our Story in The Palmerston North Diocese
The Mission Sisters have served in Aotearoa since 1865, when four Sisters travelled from France to Napier and began schools that later became Sacred Heart College and St Joseph’s Māori Girls’ College. In 1883, six Sisters founded a community in New Plymouth, beginning Sacred Heart Girls’ College. Over the years, the Sisters also taught in many primary schools in the diocese. Perhaps they taught you, or members of your family.
Today, the Sisters in Aotearoa are no longer teaching in schools and are less active in the wider community. However, across the world, many RNDM Sisters continue to work closely with people in practical, pastoral, and life-giving ways.
This Year’s Mission Projects
- Basic health care in Lindi, Tanzania: Lindi is a new foundation for the Sisters. They are building relationships with local people and have begun basic human formation courses and faith formation opportunities.
- Livelihood sustainability among the Menubu Tribe in Kulaman, the Philippines: The Sisters support local initiatives that strengthen livelihoods. They also assist Indigenous students who live in the RNDM hostel and attend the local school.
