Accompanied by the Saints, is a new weekly initiative inviting the faithful across our Diocese to discover the lives of the saints and be inspired by their witness of faith.
Each week, we will journey with a saint whose feast day falls that week, discovering their story, their humanity, the struggles and challenges they faced, and what marked their holiness.
Through their lives, we hope to be inspired to encounter Jesus, deepen our faith and live as missionary disciples.
Bishop John Adams is particularly keen to encourage Catholics to learn more about the saints and for clergy and parish leaders to share their stories. The saints are not simply figures from the past. Their lives offer powerful examples of what it means to follow Christ, examples that remain relevant to the challenges we face today.
Journeying with the saints each week
Each week there will be a range of resources to help individuals, families and parish communities engage with the saints:
- Saint on a Page: A weekly PDF featuring the saint’s story, struggles, holiness and words for prayer. Parishes are encouraged to download, print and share these resources.
- Facebook and WhatsApp: Weekly posts to help share the stories of the saints across our Diocese.
Our first saint: St Charles Borromeo
For the week beginning 2 November, we are journeying with St Charles Borromeo, whose feast day falls on Wednesday 4 November.
Born into wealth and privilege, Charles dedicated his life to serving Christ and renewing the Church. As Archbishop of Milan, he worked tirelessly to form clergy, strengthen the faith of his people and care for those in need, particularly during the plague of 1576.
His life reminds us that holiness is not about being without struggles, but about responding faithfully to God’s call.

Our hope is that, week by week, the saints will accompany and inspire us as we grow in holiness and draw closer to the Lord.
May their lives inspire us, their prayers accompany us, and their witness encourage us to share the Gospel with joy.
