Tūmanako is a pastoral initiative from the Diocese of Palmerston North, serving as a hub for prayer, ministry, formation, and evangelisation across the diocese. Our mission is to foster hope in our communities and share the life of faith in a spirit of unity and service.

We welcome submissions from individuals, parishes, and ministries that align with the vision and mission of Tūmanako and the Diocese of Palmerston North. Please carefully review the guidelines below before submitting content for consideration.

General Guidelines

    • Submissions must align with the mission and values of Tūmanako, reflecting themes of faith, hope, community, formation, and service.
    • Content should be respectful, uplifting, and in accordance with Catholic teachings.
    • We welcome a range of contributions, including articles, reflections, testimonies, pastoral initiatives, event reports, and creative works (such as poetry or art) that encourage faith and hope.
    • All submissions tagged as ‘reflections’ will include the following disclaimer:
      The reflections and opinions expressed in this piece are those of the author and are shared in the spirit of personal faith and contemplation. They do not necessarily reflect the official views of the Diocese of Palmerston North.
      This disclaimer acknowledges the diversity of perspectives within our Catholic faith and enables us to publish personal reflections while remaining respectful of that diversity.
    • All submissions must be original. If quoting or referencing external sources, proper attribution must be given.

Content Standards

To maintain the integrity of our newsletter, Tūmanako reserves the right not to publish submissions that:

    • Contain offensive, defamatory, or otherwise inappropriate language.
    • Promote personal, political, or commercial interests.
    • Are inconsistent with Catholic teaching or the pastoral vision of the Diocese of Palmerston North.
    • Are poorly structured, excessively long, not topical, or not relevant to the Diocese of Palmerston North or its audiences.
    • Include unsupported accusations or content that may mislead or harm others.
    • Suggest or encourage illegal, dangerous, or destructive activities.

Formatting & Submission Process

    • Submissions can be sent via email to communications@pndiocese.org.nz. Please include “Tūmanako Submission” in the subject line.
    • Submissions should be in a clear, readable format (e.g. Word document or in email body).
    • Submissions must be received by the stated deadline unless prior permission has been granted by the editor.
    • Articles should be approx. 300-500 words. Shorter or longer submissions may be accepted at the editor’s discretion.
    • Please provide a title, author name, and any relevant affiliation (e.g., parish, ministry, organisation).
    • Any images should be high quality (minimum 1MB) and free from copyright restrictions. Please send images as an email attachment.

Editorial Rights & Publication

    • Tūmanako reserves the right to edit submissions for clarity, grammar, and length while making every effort to preserve the original intent and tone of the author.
    • Receipt of a submission does not guarantee publication.

By submitting content to Tūmanako, you grant the Diocese of Palmerston North a non-exclusive right to publish, edit, and distribute your work. This includes use across diocesan platforms, such as diocesan websites, social media, the monthly Tūmanako email newsletter (sent on the first Wednesday of each month), and the Tūmanako print newsletter (distributed to parishes on the third weekend of each month).
